HI_openerWhen John subtracts details from an image, he gives it a kind of symbolic power.
His illustrations are very architectural because they are based on geometry.
He likes to let the image fuse with the background. For John, it’s about
evoking a feeling more than representing the image.

John graduated from Kent State University with a BFA in graphic design & illustration.
His work has been influenced by Swiss design, pop culture, posters of the WPA, &
mid-century modern design. He studied with Paul Rand, Armin Hoffman, & Herbert Matter
in Brissago, Switzerland, in a KSU design workshop. He is currently teaching
at The Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL.
