Originally from Utah, Phil Foster now resides in the state of Tennessee where he stays busy carving his scratchboard images for an array of editorial and corporate clients. With a strong background in printmaking, his scratchboard images bear the influence of woodcut and engraving techniques, possessing a graphic boldness and rich textural detail. Throughout the years, you may have seen many of Phil’s images in the pages of the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Wall St. Journal, The Boston Globe, or The Los Angeles Times; as well as many national magazines such as Business Week, Fortune, Outside, The New Republic, U.S. News & World Report, Time, Yankee, and many others. Phil received his B.F.A. in painting from Utah State University in 1982 and his M.F.A. degree in printmaking from Wichita State University in 1985.
