The National Pastime Museum (an online-only collection of baseball artifacts, info and memorabilia) recently commissioned 19 of our artists to interpret and create work based on the poem “Casey at the Bat” by Ernest L. Thayer which was originally published in the June 3, 1888 issue of San Francisco’s The Daily Examiner. The artists were given complete freedom (Dream Job!) when it came to making these illustrations. The results are an amazing display of creative talent. Some of the artists focused on the Casey character, others on the unfortunate result. Seth’s image chooses to focus on the fans while Hal Mayforth imagined a modern day Casey. Great stuff. Enjoy!
