Jean-Francois Podevin was asked by Minh Uong, art director for The New York Times Sunday Business section, to create an illustration and GIF animation for the article, “Hey A.I., Let’s Ponder Earthquakes“, which discusses how A.I. techniques are aiding scientists in analyzing massive amounts of data. This could greatly improve accuracy, enabling them to predict the way earthquakes will behave, and issue warnings in a more timely fashion. Jean-Francois depicts a human hand enhanced with robotic features to emphasize the influence of AI. I on forecasting.
